## Synopsis

Unnatural (2018) is a Japanese crime drama series created for TBS, a single-season run of ten episodes that follows Mikoto Misumi (Satomi Ishihara), a forensic investigative examiner who works alongside colleagues such as Kei Nakada (Arata Iura) and Rokuro Kube (Masataka Kubota). Her engine is simple and concrete: each episode begins with an unexplained death that officially looks natural or accidental, and the team must reopen the body, read the autopsy evidence, and trace the circumstances that led to it. The stories are self-contained cases that accumulate into a larger picture of how institutions miss violent and hidden deaths. Set in present-day Japan, the series moves between dissection rooms, police offices, and the homes of grieving families, building a register that is clinical and restrained yet deeply humane. Its tone is contemplative and melancholic, with suspense emerging from careful deduction rather than spectacle. Viewers who enjoy the forensic inquiry of Bones or the procedural care of Quincy, M.E. will find a similar pleasure in patient investigation, though this Japanese production carries its own quiet grief and social observation throughout.
