## Synopsis

The Dying Detective (2018) is a Swedish crime miniseries created for SVT1 and made in Sweden with the Swedish title Den döende detektiven. Retired detective Lars Martin Johansson (Rolf Lassgård) is told by his doctor to change his lifestyle to prevent a heart attack, and his dwindling time becomes the pressure behind his private return to an unsolved 1985 rape and murder case. Johansson is the engine of the story: he wants the killer, he has no official standing, and his body keeps reminding him that he may not have long. Around him, the three-episode run follows the people who still carry the old crime, while he follows a killer across Sweden with uncertain next steps and every lead threatening to go nowhere. This is a single-season limited series of three hour-long episodes, a tightly built piece of Swedish crime television in the tradition of nordic noir. Its tone is somber, patient and melancholic, with a tense undercurrent of dread and a focus on aging, unfinished guilt and the cost of justice delayed for decades. Fans of The Killing, Wallander and The Bridge will find the same brooding detective atmosphere and cold case intensity here.
