## Synopsis

School Babysitters (2018) is a Japanese animated slice of life series produced by Brain's Base and broadcast on TOKYO MX, adapted from a shoujo manga. Ryuichi Kashima, voiced by Koutaro Nishiyama, and his younger brother Kotaro, voiced by Nozomi Furuki, lose their parents in an airplane crash and are taken in by the chairman of Morinomiya Academy, who lost her own son and daughter-in-law in the same disaster. The condition of their new home is simple: Ryuichi must mind the children in the school's daycare room. That room was opened to help teachers who have young kids, but it is short of staff until Ryuichi becomes the first member of a babysitter club formed to fix the problem. Supporting voice cast includes Yuuichirou Umehara as Hayato Kamitani, Konomi Kohara as Kirin Kumatsuka and Tomoaki Maeno as Yoshihito Usaida. Each episode is built from everyday school life, with small childcare crises, classmates who pitch in, and quiet moments of mourning for the family the boys have lost. The single twelve-episode season has a gentle, warm and wistful tone, with comfort and sadness sitting side by side. Viewers who enjoy the found family warmth of Hanasaku Iroha and the emotional restraint of Sweet Blue Flowers will find resonance here, in a soft, approachable anime that pairs school comedy with real grief.
