## Synopsis

Everything Sucks! (2018) is a Netflix teen comedy-drama created by Michael Mohan and Ben York Jones. Set in 1996 in the fictional small town of Boring, Oregon, it follows misfits in the AV and drama clubs as they navigate the ups and downs of adolescence. Kate Messner (Peyton Kennedy) leads the group, and her circle includes Luke O'Neil (Jahi Di'Allo Winston), Tyler Bowen (Quinn Liebling) and Emaline Addario (Sydney Sweeney). Their engine is simple and felt: crushes, friendships and the urge to make something meaningful, from school plays to homemade videos recorded on bulky camcorders and tapes. The ten episodes move through the overheated rhythms of high school, with its awkward romances, lost family ties and questions of identity, while the VHS-era details give everything a nostalgic glow. The tone is wistful and sincere, with bursts of teenage humor that keep the mood breezy. Fans of The Wonder Years, Freaks and Geeks and Heartstopper will find resonance in its warm, observant portrait of growing up. A single season was produced before the series was canceled.
