## Synopsis

Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio (2017) is a Telemundo biographical music drama series created in the United States and told in Spanish. It follows singer Jenni Rivera, played by Angélica Celaya, as she fights her way out of a childhood shaped by abuse and toward success as the leader of her own band. Rosalinda Rodríguez plays her mother Rosa Saavedra de Rivera, a steadying and fiercely protective presence in a household under constant strain, while Adrian Carvajal plays Pedro Rivera and Emannuel Morales plays Gustavo Rivera, the family members whose choices shape her early years. The engine of the story is a young woman's determination to be heard in a male-dominated regional Mexican music scene, with each episode built from family conflict, money worries, industry setbacks and small victories on stage. Set in the Mexican American communities of California and the Southwest, the series moves through decades of hardship with a melodramatic, emotionally raw register, balancing heartbreak with defiance and hope. Its tone is intense and sincere, with the warmth of a family saga and the vocal spectacle of a concert film. Fans of Selena, Selena: The Series and the telenovela tradition will find resonance in its blend of music and melodrama. Over a single season of ninety-one episodes, the story stays rooted in one family's perseverance and in the cost of fame.
