## Synopsis

The Hunter (2018-2021) is an Italian crime drama series created by Marcello Izzo and Silvia Ebreul for Rai 2. Francesco Montanari plays Saverio Barone, a young prosecutor who joins the hunt for mafia bosses in the wake of the Capaci and Via D'Amelio bombings. Miriam Dalmazio plays Giada Stranzi, and Roberto Citran and Francesco Foti round out the investigative team around him. The engine of the show is the relentless campaign against cosa nostra, with Barone torn between the demands of the job and the needs of his family as the case files pile up. Each season moves through arrests, interrogations, wiretaps and fraught confrontations with men at the top of the criminal hierarchy, including Edoardo Pesce as Giovanni Brusca. Across three seasons and twenty-eight episodes, it forms one continuing serialized story that builds steadily in tension. Set in early nineties Sicily and mainland Italy, it captures the national shock and fear of that period. Its tone is tense, gritty and morally complicated, and it is inspired by the real career of anti-mafia magistrate Alfonso Sabella. Fans of Gomorra, The Wire and Il Capo dei capi will find resonance in its procedural grit and its portrait of a man losing himself to his mission.
