## Synopsis

Raven (2018-2022) is a Polish national-television crime series created for Canal+ and set in a provincial town. Michał Żurawski plays Adam Kruk, a forty-year-old police officer dependent on painkillers and psychotropic drugs who returns to the town he grew up in to hunt the man who abused his childhood friend Slawek, played by Cezary Łukaszewicz. Kruk is pulled into a kidnapping case involving the grandson of a powerful man, and he takes it as a second chance to protect a child and to seek justice. Katarzyna Wajda plays Anka Kruk and Magdalena Koleśnik plays Justyna Ataman among the principal figures around him. The engine of each season is the tension between Kruk's fraying mental state and the investigation, with gang and mafia pressures pushing the case into dangerous corners. The show runs three seasons of six episodes each, with each season anchored by a single case that keeps a long thread of past wrongs alive. Its register is dark, tense and psychologically unsettled, with a mood of paranoia and dread. Fans of True Detective and Broadchurch will find resonance in its damaged investigator and its fusion of crime procedure with personal trauma.
