## Synopsis

Ku'damm 59 (2018) is a German period drama miniseries created by Annette Hess for ZDF, a three-episode limited series of ninety-minute installments. Caterina Schöllack (Claudia Michelsen) guides her grown daughters through the rigid society of late 1950s West Germany. Monika (Sonja Gerhardt) pursues a stage career alongside her partner Freddy (Trystan Pütter), with Caterina acting as their manager, while Helga (Maria Ehrich) works hard to become the perfect housewife and mother to Monika's daughter Dorli (Alma Löhr). Eva (Emilia Schüle) chafes against her life as the wife of a professor, Dr. Jürgen Fassbender (Heino Ferch). Each thread tests what women are permitted to want in a country still bound by conservative postwar expectations. The tone is measured and emotionally textured, mixing glossy show business glamour with the quiet suffocation of domestic life and the friction of family loyalties. Its sharp social observation of gender roles and ambition makes it a fit for viewers who enjoy Babylon Berlin, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Crown. Set in the Berlin of the 1950s, it follows the tensions between tradition and self-determination across three well-crafted episodes.
