## Synopsis

The Piano Forest (2018-2019) is a Japanese animated drama series produced by NHK and GAINAX for NHK G. Across two seasons and twenty-four episodes, it follows Kai Ichinose (voiced by Soma Saito), a boy raised in humble circumstances who has taught himself to play an abandoned piano in the forest near his home, and Shuhei Amamiya (voiced by Natsuki Hanae), who has been surrounded by music since infancy as the son of a family of prestigious pianists. Their lives are drawn together through their shared devotion to the instrument, and the engine of the story is the slow, demanding work of training, competition and rivalry that tests each boy's talent against the pressures of class and expectation. Principal figures such as the teacher Sosuke Ajino (Junichi Suwabe) and fellow pianist Wei Pang (Yuichi Nakamura) shape their development. Each episode unfolds at a patient, measured pace, built around practice rooms, recitals and quiet moments at the keyboard. The tone is tranquil and wistful, with emotional depth drawn from music itself. Fans of Your Lie in April, Nodame Cantabile and Chihayafuru will find resonance in its classical music world, its coming of age struggles and its devotion to craft.
