## Synopsis

Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (1973-1974) is an American children's fantasy comedy created by Marty Krofft, Sid Krofft and Si Rose for NBC. Johnny Whitaker plays Johnny Stuart and Scott C. Kolden plays his brother Scott, two boys who befriend Sigmund Ooze, a gentle sea monster played by Billy Barty. Their everyday kid problems keep spilling into fantastical trouble, while the boys try to keep their new friend hidden from grown-ups. Rip Taylor appears as Sheldon the Sea Genie, a flamboyant magical presence who adds bursts of mischief to the adventures. Margaret Hamilton and Mary Wickes bring a comic edge as the adults around the household. The series runs two seasons and twenty-nine half-hour episodes, each built around a self-contained mishap or misunderstanding. It is a Sid and Marty Krofft production in the bright, loud house style of 1970s Saturday morning television, with costumed creatures, painted sets and broad slapstick. The tone is cheerful, silly and gentle, aimed squarely at younger viewers and families. Fans of H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost and Lidsville will find the same playful, puppet-driven whimsy and kid-centered fantasy. Each episode stands alone, making it an easy, breezy rewatch for anyone nostalgic for classic kids television.
