## Synopsis

Nuevo Rico Nuevo Pobre (2007-2011) is a Colombian telenovela created for Caracol TV, a national-television soap opera with a comedic streak. Its cast includes Martín Karpan, Jhon Álex Toro, Carolina Acevedo, María Cecilia Botero and Hugo Gómez, with Andrés Toro and Diana Neira among the principals. Characters including Andrés Ferreira Mancera and Bryan Leónidas Galindo Romero, played by Martín Karpan and Jhon Álex Toro, carry the story as their identities and family loyalties tangle across households of very different wealth. Rosmery Peláez Ortiz (Carolina Acevedo) and Antonia Mancera de Ferreira (María Cecilia Botero) pull the plot toward romance, rivalry and reversals of fortune. Each episode is built from family intrigue, mistaken identities and class-crossing courtship set in contemporary Colombia. The series ran for one season of 194 episodes and was a high-rated primetime fixture in its home market, later broadcast in Ecuador. Its tone is melodramatic and warm, mixing soap opera heartache with light comic exaggeration. Fans of Betty la Fea and Pasión de Gavilanes will find the same mix of social class comedy and heightened romance.
