## Synopsis

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (2003-2012) is an American reality series created for ABC and hosted by carpenter Ty Pennington, who leads crews through nine seasons of charitable home transformations. Each episode follows a family facing hardship such as a natural disaster or a member's life-threatening illness. Local contractors coordinate building trades to renovate the interior, exterior and landscaping in seven days while the family is on vacation, and if the house is beyond repair the crew replaces it entirely. The engine is the countdown: a crew racing against a week to build something the family cannot yet imagine, with the reveal as the emotional payoff. Across roughly two hundred episodes the format remains unchanged, a warm, relentlessly generous procession of tears, hammering and surprise. Its tone is sincere, uplifting and openly sentimental, a feel-good reality program with a wholesome heart. Viewers who enjoy Trading Spaces and Queer Eye will find the same kind of charitable makeover warmth here, with a greater emphasis on crisis and rescue. The result is comforting, communal television built around giving back.
