## Synopsis

Ossan's Love (2018) is a Japanese romantic comedy series created for TV Asahi, a seven-episode single-season run of roughly fifty-minute episodes. Its protagonist Haruta Soichi (Kei Tanaka) has lived a conventional straight life, but his older male supervisor Musashi Kurosawa (Kotaro Yoshida) confesses romantic feelings to him, and soon his roommate Ryōta Maki (Kento Hayashi) reveals similar intentions. The engine of the show is Soichi's bewildered attempt to keep his career, friendships and home life intact while he is pursued by two men and tries to work out what he actually feels. Each episode is built from awkward office scenes, tense confessions, jealous rivalries and quiet apartment conversations rather than a single case or mystery. Set in contemporary Tokyo, it presents its office and household settings with a light, breezy touch while treating the emotional stakes of identity and desire with sincerity. The tone mixes comedy, warmth and heartache, and the series is widely regarded as a landmark that helped mainstream gay romance in Japanese television. Fans of Heartstopper and The Office (US) will find the same mix of workplace awkwardness and tender romantic longing here.
