## Synopsis

Nuremberg (2000) is an American television miniseries created for TNT, a two-episode docudrama adapted from a novel. Alec Baldwin plays Justice Robert H. Jackson, the American prosecutor who leads Allied lawyers in the trial of twenty-one Germans accused of Nazi war crimes after World War II. Jill Hennessy plays Elsie Douglas, and Brian Cox takes on Hermann Goering, the defiant Reich leader who fights the court at every turn, while Christopher Plummer plays British prosecutor Sir David Maxwell-Fyfe. The engine of the story is a race to build a legal case for crimes that no court has ever tried: prosecutors gather documents and testimony from survivors and perpetrators while defendants argue that they were only following orders. Each episode is built from courtroom sessions, witness accounts, and archival horrors that the proceedings force into the open. Set in 1945 and 1946 in the ruined German city of Nuremberg, the series is sober, weighty and emotionally harrowing, a grounded historical drama in the vein of Judgment at Nuremberg and Lincoln. Fans of Chernobyl and prestige historical courtroom drama will find resonance in its austere, serious approach to the reckoning with the Nazi past.
