## Synopsis

La Hipocondriaca (2013) is a Colombian tragicomedy telenovela created by Ana María Parra Vázquez and Catalina Coy for Caracol TV. Macarena González (Stephanie Cayo) is a hypochondriac whose chronic fear of illness hardens into a real terminal diagnosis, and she begins treating her frightened, self-absorbed life as a quest for something authentic. Her handsome doctor, Alejandro Pulido (Ernesto Calzadilla), is drawn into her orbit while concealing a secret that complicates every tender moment between them. Around them the family circle adds warmth and friction: Camila Santos (Cristina Campuzano), Luz Elvira (Marilyn Patiño), and the eccentric Tío Pacho (Alberto León Jaramillo) bring loud domestic scenes, romantic rivalries, and a steady stream of comic mishaps. The single season of 120 episodes, each around fifty minutes, moves through clinic visits, family dinners, and romantic entanglements in a contemporary Colombian setting. The tone swings between sly humor and genuine melancholy, with the melodramatic conventions of the telenovela giving every confession and quarrel an operatic lift. Viewers who enjoy Ugly Betty, Jane the Virgin, and Yo soy Betty, la fea will find the same blend of romantic melodrama and comic self-deprecation.
