## Synopsis

Wellington Paranormal (2018-2022) is a New Zealand mockumentary comedy series created by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement for TVNZ 2. Officers Minogue (Mike Minogue) and O'Leary (Karen O'Leary) take to the streets of New Zealand's capital to investigate ghosts, demons and other paranormal disturbances, while Sergeant Maaka (Maaka Pohatu) and Constable Parker (Tom Sainsbury) keep the station running around them. The engine of each episode is a routine call that escalates into the uncanny, handled with the calm paperwork of an ordinary shift. The series runs four seasons and twenty-five episodes of about twenty-one minutes each, a case-of-the-week format with recurring characters. Its humour is dry, deadpan and warm, with an earnest bumbling tone that treats monsters as local nuisances. Set in present-day Wellington, it has the feel of a provincial city where the strange is simply part of the job. Fans of What We Do in the Shadows, The Office and Summer Heights High will find resonance in its awkward, affectionate deadpan.
