## Synopsis

Asobi Asobase (2018) is a Japanese animated absurdist school comedy series produced by Lerche and broadcast on AT-X, TOKYO MX and other regional networks. Set in an ordinary Japanese junior high, it follows Olivia, a foreign transfer student who knows no English, and Hanako Honda, a loud and airheaded classmate, as they invent games during recess. Their rowdy play draws the irritation of Kasumi Nomura, a deadpan loner constantly teased by her older sister, who reluctantly joins in and quickly becomes the trio's most mischievous member. Each episode is built from small, escalating situations such as failing English lessons, desperate attempts at popularity, and getting caught by teachers at the worst possible moment. The engine is simply the girls' restless need for fun, and the show gathers them into a self-declared Pastime Club that exists mainly to keep their daily hijinks going. Fans of Azumanga Daioh, Nichijou and Lucky Star will find resonance in its flat, offbeat humor and warm, eccentric friendships. Running for a single season of twelve episodes, it offers a light, breezy watch with a cozy, irreverent register.
