## Synopsis

Baki (2018-2020) is a Japanese animated action series created for Netflix, produced by TMS Entertainment and adapted from the manga. Its protagonist is Baki Hanma, a teenage martial arts champion voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki, who trains relentlessly to surpass his legendary father Yūjirō Hanma, voiced by Akio Otsuka. The engine of the story is his ambition set against a gallery of violent death row inmates, including Sikorsky (voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda) and Doyle (voiced by Takehito Koyasu), who descend upon Tokyo to take him on. Each episode is built around a bout of exaggerated, blood-soaked combat in which one fighter batters the other, rises, and strikes back harder, while sidelined plotting fills the gaps between matches. Across two seasons and 39 episodes, the show leans on a hard, macho intensity, a pulpy grimness and an underground fighting world, with its tone sitting somewhere between a brutal crime drama and a bombastic shonen spectacle. Fans of Dragon Ball Z, Kengan Ashura and Fist of the North Star will find a similar appetite for escalating brawls and grudge-fueled rivalry, though viewers who want tight storytelling may find it uneven.
