## Synopsis

Samantha! (2018-2019) is a Brazilian comedy series created by Felipe Braga for Netflix. Emanuelle Araújo plays Samantha, a former child star who clings to the fringes of celebrity in 1980s Sao Paulo, hatching hilarious, harebrained schemes to launch herself back into the spotlight. Her efforts pull in her circle of family and hangers-on, including Douglas Silva as Douglas Alencar (Dodói), Cauã Gonçalves as Brandon Alencar, and Sabrina Nonata as Cindy Alencar, whose own ambitions and flailing plans keep colliding with hers. Each of the fourteen short episodes of roughly half an hour is built around a new gambit, a new humiliation, and a new attempt to be noticed, with the comedy resting on vanity, improvisation, and the gap between self-image and reality. Across two seasons the tone stays breezy, irreverent, and sardonic, with a retro glow of 1980s excess, big hair, and pop-culture ambition. Its mood is brash but warm, closer to a cheeky satire of fame than a sentimental story. Fans of Absolutely Fabulous, Extras and Ugly Betty will find resonance in its self-absorbed heroine and her kinship with the sitcom tradition of comic vanity. The series ended after its second season, leaving its characters' hopes unresolved.
