## Synopsis

My ID is Gangnam Beauty (2018) is a South Korean romantic comedy-drama series created for JTBC and adapted from a popular webtoon. Kang Mi-rae (Im Soo-hyang), a young woman who was bullied for her looks, undergoes plastic surgery in the hope of building a better life, then enters college where her new appearance brings unfamiliar attention, rivalries and romantic entanglements. Cha Eun-woo plays Do Kyeong-seok, and Shin Jun-seop plays the younger version of his character, with Jo Woo-ri and Kwak Dong-yeon rounding out the principal college cast. The engine of the story is Mi-rae's struggle to reconcile the person she has become with the person she still is, with each episode built around campus friendships, misunderstandings and the pressures of a society that rewards looks. Told in a single sixteen-episode season of roughly sixty-five minutes each, the show blends light comic beats with sharp, sometimes painful observations about beauty standards and school bullying. Its register is breezy and sincere, moving between warm humor and wistful melancholy. Fans of Cinderella Lover, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo and Pinocchio will find resonance in its mix of romance and social commentary.
