## Synopsis

Ultraman (2019-2023) is a Japanese animated science fiction action series created for Netflix, produced by Production I.G, Sola Digital Arts and Tsuburaya Productions, drawing on the long tokusatsu tradition of giant alien heroes. Decades after a hero from the stars left Earth in peace, Shinjiro Hayata (voiced by Ryohei Kimura) becomes the son of Ultraman, a young man who must rise to protect the planet when a new alien threat emerges. Hideyuki Tanaka voices Shin Hayata, Sumire Morohoshi voices Rena Sayama, and Uoken voices Mitsuhiro Ide, while Kaiji Soze narrates as Bemular. The series spans three seasons and thirty-one episodes of roughly twenty-three minutes each, with the early seasons building the central hero's mission and later seasons escalating the conflict. Its engine is the weight of inherited responsibility, as a reluctant protagonist learns to fight beside allies and carry a legacy he did not ask for. The 3D computer-animated look is built around kaiju battles, transformations and high school life intruding on a secret war. The tone mixes earnest heroism with bursts of monster spectacle and a wistful sense of a golden past. Fans of Kamen Rider, Voltron: Legendary Defender and Neon Genesis Evangelion will find resonance in its mix of giant-monster action and cosmic duty.
