## Synopsis

Happy Sugar Life (2018) is a Japanese animated psychological thriller series created for MBS and TBS, adapted from the manga. Satou Matsuzaka, voiced by Kana Hanazawa, is a girl who has never loved anyone before and falls for Shio Koube, voiced by Misaki Kuno. The two begin a seemingly idyllic life together, and Satou will not let anyone endanger it, threatening, confining, or killing anyone who gets in the way. The engine of the series is the tension between the pastel domestic routines of the couple and the escalating lengths Satou will go to protect them. Supporting characters voiced by Yumiri Hanamori as Asahi Koube, Natsuki Hanae as Taiyou Mitsuboshi, and Aya Suzaki as Shouko Hida orbit the central pair, their lives pulled into the widening circle of Satou's obsession. The series is a single season of twelve episodes, presented in a slice of life style that makes its dread feel all the more unsettling. Its tone is saccharine and eerie, with a suspenseful, psychological horror undercurrent. Fans of Monster and Mind Game will find resonance in its unsettling blend of tenderness and menace.
