## Synopsis

Stargirl (2020-2022) is an American superhero series created by Geoff Johns for The CW and DC Universe, a three-season run of thirty-nine episodes that was canceled. Brec Bassinger plays Courtney Whitmore, a smart, athletic and kind teenager who discovers that her step-father was once the sidekick to a superhero. She borrows the long-lost hero's cosmic staff and becomes the unlikely figurehead for a new generation of crime-fighting heroes, while Yvette Monreal plays her wary friend Yolanda Montez, Anjelika Washington plays Beth Chapel, and Cameron Gellman plays Rick Tyler. The engine of the show is a teenager learning to balance a secret double life with school, family and friendship, with each season built around villains, rival heroes and a growing team learning to work together. Set in a contemporary American town, it blends the goofy wonder of old-school comic books with a teen drama sensibility, a bright and optimistic tone and a warm found family core. Viewers who enjoy Smallville, Supergirl and Titans will find a similar mix of youthful heroism and comic book earnestness, though the series remains lighter and more family oriented than its peers.
