## What critics say

Audiences found the premise of a skeptic taking spiritual errands from a Facebook friend request charming but the series uneven and its preachiness wore thin over two seasons.

## Synopsis

God Friended Me (2018-2020) is a American network drama series created by Bryan Wynbrandt and Steven Lilien for CBS. Miles Finer (Brandon Micheal Hall), a self-proclaimed pesky atheist, is befriended on Facebook by an account claiming to be God, and he is nudged into performing good deeds for strangers around New York. His engine is a skeptic's resistance: he wants to prove the request is nonsense, while his sister Cara Bloom (Violett Beane) and his colleague Rakesh Singh (Suraj Sharma) push him toward the people he is meant to help. Each episode is built around a self-contained favor that touches an ordinary stranger's life, and the series spreads these weekly missions across two seasons, giving the family dynamics involving Ali Finer (Javicia Leslie) and their father Arthur Finer (Joe Morton) room to grow. The tone is warm, earnest and sometimes playful, with light mystery threads about the unseen messenger giving the show a gentle hook. Set in contemporary Manhattan, it is a broadcast network drama with a faith-and-doubt core, and viewers who enjoy Touched by an Angel and Preacher will find a similar appetite for moral uplift and questions of belief. The series ran for two seasons and was canceled before its story was fully resolved.
