## Synopsis

Vermin (2018) is a French adult animated satire series created by Balak, Hafid F. Benamar and Alexis Beaumont for Blackpills. The protagonist is a praying mantis who leaves the countryside for the city, determined to become a policeman, and the series follows his struggle to survive a hostile police force and a city full of rough characters. Chemou, Rick, Régis Mantos and the Commissaire are the principal figures, voiced by Cathy Palenne, Monsieur Poulpe, Julien Crampon and Gaël Mectoob. The engine of each episode is the gap between the mantis's earnest ambition and the indifference, corruption and cruelty of the institution he wants to join. The series runs ten short episodes of about ten minutes each, a single compact season told as one continuing arc. Its satirical edge borrows the anthropomorphic look of family animation but drops any sentimentality, leaving a cynical, irreverent and often bleak register. Fans of Zootopia, Corporate and Brickleberry will find resonance in its animal-world police comedy, though its humor is far harsher and more adult.
