## Synopsis

Mr Inbetween (2018-2021) is an Australian crime drama series created by Scott Ryan for FX. Scott Ryan also stars as Ray Shoesmith, a Sydney hitman and fixer who is a father, ex-husband, boyfriend and best friend, trying to keep all of those roles intact while taking on criminal jobs for hire. Around him, Chika Yasumura plays Brittany, Brooke Satchwell plays Ally, and Damon Herriman plays Freddy, each pulling Ray in a different direction. The engine of the show is the strain between his domestic obligations and the violent work he cannot stop doing, and each episode of this three-season serialized series is built from short, tightly edited sequences of jobs, debts and tense personal confrontations. Its tone is dark, deadpan and bleakly funny, with brutal moments undercut by awkward humor and quiet melancholy. The Sydney setting gives the story a grounded, unglamorous underworld feel. Fans of Breaking Bad, Barry and Better Call Saul will find resonance in its morally compromised protagonist, its blend of comedy and menace, and its focus on the cost of living a double life. The show runs 26 episodes across three seasons and has a loyal following among viewers who prize sharp writing and unsentimental character work.
