## Synopsis

Toon (2016-2017) is a Dutch comedy series created by Joep Vermolen and Beer ten Kate and produced by NewBeTV for KPN Presenteert. Joep Vermolen stars as Toon, a reclusive, socially awkward jingle composer whose life is upended when a viral video catapults him into fame. Around him, Amy van der Weerden plays Nina, Loulou Hameleers plays Elise, and Marijn Klaver plays Ab, each pulling him deeper into a glossy entertainment world that feels more predatory than glamorous. The engine of the show is the mismatch between Toon's wish to stay quietly behind his keyboard and the demands of publicity, performances and meetings that keep demanding he become someone he is not. Each short episode of roughly twenty-five minutes stages another humiliating encounter, built on deadpan silences and mounting social discomfort. The series runs for two seasons of eight episodes each, and it was canceled after its second season. Its tone is dry, uneasy and sharply observational, closer to a cringe comedy than a traditional sitcom. Fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Conchords and Extras will find resonance in its awkward protagonist and its satire of celebrity culture.
