## Synopsis

House Arrest is a Russian comedy series created by Semyon Slepakov for Premier. Disgraced Sineozyorsk mayor Arkadiy Anikeyev is caught in a large-scale bribery scheme and sentenced to house arrest in a cramped communal apartment, where he has been left by his wife, who controls all the property. Under the same roof is Ivan Samsonov, an old childhood neighbor, whom Arkadiy decides to help become the city's new mayor so that Samsonov can clear his own charges. The engine is a stubborn, scheming comedy of favors, rivalries and crowded domestic friction, as the two men and their households push against bureaucracy and each other. The single season of twelve roughly seventy-minute episodes is a continuous story rather than a case of the week. Set in present-day provincial Russia, the series blends satire of local politics with warm, wry family comedy and a sly affection for its flawed characters. Fans of sharp political satire and domestic humor will find a kindred mix of scheming and warmth.
