## Synopsis

CoinCoin and the Extra-Humans (2018) is a French miniseries created by Bruno Dumont for ARTE. In this four-episode sequel to Li'l Quinquin, goofy detective Captain Van der Weyden (Bernard Pruvost) and his loyal assistant Carpentier (Philippe Jore) investigate a strange magma found near CoinCoin's rural hometown, where residents begin behaving oddly. Their methodical, almost bureaucratic inquiries gradually reveal that an extraterrestrial invasion has begun, while local figures such as Eve Terrier (Lucy Caron) and the young Coincoin (Alane Delhaye) move through the unsettling changes. The engine of the show is the collision between mundane police routine and cosmic strangeness, with long, static scenes of provincial life punctuated by absurd escalation. The tone is deadpan, uncanny and quietly comic, with a flat northern French landscape giving the sci-fi premise an odd, austere atmosphere. Fans of Li'l Quinquin, Twin Peaks and Hot Fuzz will find resonance in its blend of offbeat humor, small-town unease and genre playfulness.
