## Synopsis

Emily in Paris (2020-present) is a Netflix romantic comedy created by Darren Star. Lily Collins plays Emily Cooper, a plucky American marketing whiz who lands a dream job at a Parisian agency and must win over a prickly boss, Sylvie Grateau (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), while building a friendship with her roommate Mindy Chen (Ashley Park). Her romantic life tangles her between Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), a charming chef, and rivals and admirers in the office. The engine is simple: Emily wants to succeed on her own terms while cultural misunderstandings, client demands and fashion-industry politics keep getting in the way. Each episode is built around a new campaign, a new flirtation or a new clash between American directness and French manners. The result is a ten-episode-per-season, five-season serialized romcom with a sunny, glossy and frequently silly register, rich in couture, cafe scenes and sightseeing. Set in present-day Paris, the show leans on postcard imagery and cozy escapism. Fans of Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada and Gilmore Girls will find familiar pleasures in its fashion-forward romance and bright, breezy banter, though its stereotypes divide critics.
