## Synopsis

Spinning Out (2020) is a American Netflix drama series created by Samantha Stratton, a single-season limited series of ten 48-minute episodes that was canceled after its run. Kaya Scodelario stars as Katarina Baker, a figure skating Olympic hopeful whose dream of winning takes a dizzying hold on her life. Around her, January Jones plays her mother Carol Baker, and Willow Shields plays her sister Serena Baker, while Evan Roderick plays Justin Davis, a figure in her orbit whose relationship with her tests her priorities. Each episode follows the grinding demands of training, rinks, competitions and home life, as Katarina tries to balance love and family against a fragile mental health that the pressure of elite sport keeps pushing toward a breaking point. The engine is simple and relentless: every step toward the podium costs her something personal. The show plays as a sincere, tense sports drama with an intimate, emotional register, foregrounding anxiety, ambition and the human cost of chasing gold. Its candid handling of mental disorders and the pressure of Olympic sport sets it apart from glossier skating fare. Fans of Friday Night Lights and Center Stage will find resonance in its portrait of young athletes under relentless expectation.
