## Synopsis

The Promised Neverland (2019-2021) is a Japanese animated thriller series created for Fuji TV and produced by CloverWorks and Aniplex, adapted into a two-season anime with twenty-three episodes. Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest children at the Grace Field House orphanage, living a comfortable life under the caretaker they call Mom. When Emma and Norman discover the dark truth about the world beyond the orphanage walls, they begin secretly planning an escape while keeping up the cheerful appearance their caretakers expect. The engine of the show is cat-and-mouse tension: every conversation hides a second meaning, and each episode is built from careful deception, clever stratagems and narrow near misses against adults who may be watching. Voice cast members Sumire Morohoshi as Emma and Maaya Uchida as Norman anchor the performances. The first season is a tightly plotted mystery of concealment and nerve, while the second widens the scope into a harsher conflict. The story is set in an unnamed present-day-style rural estate with a clinical, isolated atmosphere. Its tone is eerie and suspenseful, with a sunny surface that makes the underlying dread more unsettling. Fans of Death Note, Attack on Titan and Battle Royale will find resonance in its intelligent young protagonists and grim stakes.
