## Synopsis

Martha Speaks (2009-2013) is a Canadian and American animated preschool series created by Susan Meddaugh for PBS Kids and TVOntario. Martha, a beloved family dog, accidentally eats a bowl of alphabet soup and suddenly gains the power of speech, which she uses to share her opinions with anyone who will listen. Voiced by Tabitha St. Germain, Martha lives with the Lorraine family, including Helen Lorraine (Madeleine Peters), and her human companion T.D. Kennelly (Alex Ferris) is a central figure in the household. Each episode is built around everyday situations, from neighborhood errands to household mishaps, where Martha's chatter and curiosity lead to playful misunderstandings and lessons about words and their meanings. The show spans six seasons and 179 episodes, with a breezy, gentle comedic register and a warm domestic atmosphere aimed at young children. Its bright, cheerful animation and light, encouraging tone make it a comforting pick for families. Fans of Clifford the Big Red Dog, Arthur and Sheep in the Big City will find similar pleasures in its kid-friendly humor, friendly animal protagonist and gentle educational focus.
