## What critics say

Viewers broadly consider Loki an acclaimed, technically polished addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, praised for its production design, score, and Tom Hiddleston's performance, with a slow start giving way to a gripping multiverse story.

## Synopsis

Loki (2021-2023) is an American Marvel Studios science fiction series created by Michael Waldron for Disney+, a spin-off of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Hiddleston plays the mischievous god Loki, an alternate version of the character who steals the Tesseract after the events of Avengers: Endgame and is hauled before the Time Variance Authority, a bureaucratic agency that exists outside of time and space and polices the timeline. Judge Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) pressure him to help track down threats to the timeline, while Sophia Di Martino plays the rebellious Sylvie. Across two seasons of twelve episodes, the show builds a case-of-the-week chase through eras and branching realities, mixing procedural investigation with multiverse mythology. Its tone is wry and playful, with dry bureaucratic humor undercutting cosmic stakes, and its themes turn on redemption, free will, and the cost of being erased. The look is polished and gleaming, with retro-futuristic offices and a memorable score. Fans of WandaVision, Doctor Who and Dark will find resonance in its mix of time-travel puzzles and character-driven melancholy.
