## Synopsis

Shrill (2019-2021) is a US comedy-drama series created by Aidy Bryant, Alexandra Rushfield and Lindy West for Hulu, running three seasons and 22 half-hour episodes before its cancellation. Aidy Bryant stars as Annie Easton, a plus-size young woman trying to build a career as a journalist while refusing to change her body to suit anyone's expectations. Her working life is a struggle against a perfectionist boss, and her personal life is strained by unreliable boyfriends and her sick parents, including Julia Sweeney as her mother Vera. Lolly Adefope plays Fran, Annie's blunt and loyal friend, who helps anchor the show's warmth. Each episode is built from small humiliations, dates gone wrong, and quiet workplace indignities, with Annie gradually learning she deserves more than the world offers. The tone is candid, awkward and sharp, mixing wry comedy with moments of real pain and hard-won confidence. Set in contemporary American cities, the show plays out in a modern media culture of online trolling and public judgment. Fans of Broad City, Girls and Fleabag will find resonance in its female-led honesty, self-regard and comic bite.
