## Synopsis

The Chosen (2019-present) is a United States faith-based historical drama series created by Dallas Jenkins and distributed through Prime Video and its own streaming platform. Rather than centering solely on its central figure, the series follows the people whose lives intersect with Jesus of Nazareth (Jonathan Roumie), among them the fisherman Simon Peter (Shahar Isaac), the former tax collector Matthew (Paras Patel), the doubting Thomas (Joey Vahedi), and Mary Magdalene (Elizabeth Tabish). Each episode is built from their ordinary struggles with debt, illness, family obligation and suspicion of a movement that is growing around a preacher from Galilee. The engine is a set of individuals who want relief, belonging or answers and must decide what following him will cost them. Five seasons of roughly eight episodes each form one continuing story, moving between small villages, markets and Jerusalem. Its tone is earnest, warm and contemplative, with quiet humor between friends and moments of wonder and grief. Fans of The Bible, Jesus of Nazareth and Rome will find resonance in its reverent ensemble storytelling and its grounded approach to ancient Judea.
