## Synopsis

Lorena (2019) is a American true crime docuseries created for Prime Video, presented as a limited series of four hour-long episodes. It revisits the events of 1993, when Lorena Bobbitt severed her husband's penis after years of abuse, and follows how the couple's stories exploded into a relentless twenty-four-hour news cycle. Lorena Bobbitt herself appears on camera alongside her former husband John Wayne Bobbitt, and the series also draws on testimony from urologist Dr. James Sehn, crime scene technician Sindi Leo, and police officers John Tillman and Dani Harris, with a brief appearance by Whoopi Goldberg. Rather than dwelling only on the act, the documentary examines how Lorena became a national punchline while her suffering was ignored by a male-dominated press, and how John's life spiraled downward in the spotlight. Built from interviews, archival footage and reconstruction of the investigation, the series has a reflective, sober tone that gives its subject room to speak. Its atmosphere is unsettling and intimate, tracing the gap between public spectacle and private trauma. Fans of The Jinx, Serial and other documentary miniseries that reconsider sensational American crime stories will find resonance here. The four-episode run makes it a focused, contained watch that rewards close attention.
