## Synopsis

In the Dark (2019-2022) is an American crime comedy-drama series created by Corinne Kingsbury for The CW. Perry Mattfeld plays Murphy Mason, a hard-drinking, cynical and self-destructive blind woman who insists she is the only witness to the murder of her drug-dealing friend Tyson. When the police dismiss her account, she sets out with her guide dog Pretzel to find the killer, while also navigating a colorful dating life and a job she hates at the guide-dog school run by her overprotective parents. The engine of the show is Murphy's stubborn refusal to be sidelined, and each episode mixes sleuthing on the seedy streets of a Chicago-area city with awkward romance and family friction. Across four seasons the story builds as a serialized mystery with case threads running alongside its personal drama. The tone is irreverent and breezy, with pitch-black humor undercutting moments of real menace and genuine emotional honesty. Fans of Monk, Dexter and Fleabag will find resonance in its flawed heroine and dark comic register. The show was canceled before its central mystery was fully closed.
