## Synopsis

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (2019-2023) is a United States mockumentary-style musical comedy created by Tim Federle for Disney+. Following the drama club at East High, the story tracks students counting down to opening night of their school's first-ever production of High School Musical. Olivia Rodrigo plays Nini Salazar-Roberts, Joshua Bassett plays Ricky Bowen, Sofia Wylie plays Gina Porter, and Julia Lester plays Ashlyn Caswell, and their rehearsals, showmances and shifting alliances drive each episode. Friendships are tested, new ones form, and rivalries flare as the cast and crew of the show-within-a-show chase a successful night on stage. The engine of the series is the pressure of putting on a production with limited time, limited money and too many egos, played out through songs and confessional-style interviews. Its four seasons make up one continuing school year arc, with each season building toward a new performance. The tone is bright, sincere and nostalgic, with a warm, hopeful sense of how transformative a high school theater program can be. Fans of Glee and the original High School Musical films will find resonance in its mix of musical numbers, teen romance and earnest heart. Keep it light and family friendly, and enjoy the music.
