## Synopsis

Resistance (2019) is an Irish national-television historical drama miniseries created by Colin Teevan for RTÉ One. Across five 50-minute episodes it follows the lives of civilians and combatants swept up in the height of Ireland's War of Independence, a sequel to the earlier Rebellion miniseries. Brian Gleeson plays Jimmy Mahon, whose divided loyalties pull him into the struggle, while Simone Kirby plays Ursula Sweeney and Natasha O'Keeffe plays Agnes Moore, two women whose choices carry personal and political weight. David Wilmot as Patrick Mahon and Craig Parkinson as Captain David McLeod add further pressure from family and the security forces. Each episode moves through safehouses, political negotiations and armed encounters, with the story built around people trying to hold onto their families and principles as the conflict tightens. The tone is grave, tense and grounded, with a bleak undercurrent of betrayal and loss. Its atmosphere recalls the period sweep of Peaky Blinders and the historical gravity of Chernobyl, and fans of those prestige miniseries will find resonance in its focus on ordinary lives under occupation. Set in 1919-1921 Ireland, it is a compact, self-contained story that rewards close attention.
