## Synopsis

The Penguins of Madagascar (2008-2013) is an American animated family comedy spin-off created by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath for Nickelodeon, developed from the DreamWorks Madagascar films. Its heroes are the four penguins Skipper (voiced by Tom McGrath), Kowalski (Jeff Bennett), Private and Rico (John DiMaggio), a crew of self-styled commandos who want nothing more than to keep their home in the Central Park Zoo safe. The engine of each episode is simple and funny: the penguins plan and execute elaborate covert operations, usually to undo the damage caused by their scheming neighbors, the ring-tailed lemur King Julien XIII (Danny Jacobs), the aye-aye Maurice (Kevin Michael Richardson) and the mouse lemur Mort (Andy Richter). The show runs for three seasons and 149 episodes of brisk, eleven-minute installments, each largely self-contained and easy to pick up at any point. Its tone is breezy, irreverent and gently absurd, with deadpan military bravado played against trivial domestic stakes. Set in present-day New York, it is a bright, cozy kids comedy, and fans of Madagascar, Phineas and Ferb and Kim Possible will find similar pleasures in its playful, family-friendly chaos.
