## Synopsis

Betty in New York (2019) is a Mexican-American Spanish-language telenovela comedy series created by Valentina Párraga and Sandra Velasco for Telemundo. Elyfer Torres plays Beatriz Betty Rincón Lozano, a young Latina who, after being turned down by employer after employer, accepts a job far beneath her qualifications in the New York fashion industry. Her days are built around the cutthroat office politics of a glamorous fashion house, where a constant war between the pretty and the unattractive plays out in rivalries, sabotage, and status games. Around her, Cesar Bono, Erick Elías, Amaranta Ruiz, and Sabrina Seara play family members, colleagues, and romantic rivals whose entanglements keep the workplace lively. The engine of the show is Betty's determination to prove herself among people who underestimate her, while love grows into the biggest challenge of her life. Filmed as a single 127-episode season of roughly 45-minute episodes, the series follows the classic telenovela pattern of escalating plots and heightened emotion. Its tone is warm, breezy, and melodramatic, mixing comedy with sincere romance and an underdog's hope. Set in present-day Manhattan, it offers the glamour of runways and boardrooms alongside an immigrant's perseverance. Fans of Ugly Betty, Yo soy Betty la fea, and The Devil Wears Prada will find familiar pleasures here.
