## Synopsis

Tenías que ser Tú (2018) is a Mexican telenovela created by Mapat L. de Zatarain and Nelhiño Acosta for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Ariadne Díaz plays Marisa Santiesteban Elorza, a mother whose life becomes entangled with Miguel "Miky" Carreto, played by Andrés Palacios, through their children. Arturo Peniche, Chantal Andere, Grettell Valdéz and Fernando Alonso fill out the principal circle of family members, rivals and confidants. The engine of the series is the slow pull between two people burdened by parenthood, whose daily obligations, misunderstandings and personal setbacks keep pushing them apart even as they grow closer. Each episode is built from family confrontations, romantic misreadings and small reconciliations, all unspooling over a single run of eighty-seven hour-long episodes that broadcast from March to July 2018. It is a self-contained, classic romantic melodrama rather than an open-ended saga, following the familiar Latin American format of emotional reversals and tearful family scenes. Set in contemporary Mexico, the story keeps its focus on ordinary domestic life, and its tone is warm, sentimental and hopeful, with a steady undercurrent of heartache. Fans of Ámbar, La Madrastra and Corazón que miente will find the same blend of melodrama and late-blooming romance.
