## Synopsis

Cyborg Kuro-chan (1999-2001) is a Japanese animated kids comedy series created for TV Tokyo and a group of regional Japanese broadcasters. Its protagonist is Kuro, an ordinary cat who only wants to protect his elderly owners who cannot look after themselves. Voiced by Chika Sakamoto as Kuro-chan and Chiharu Tezuka as Mii, the show follows Kuro after an evil scientist kidnaps him on a date with his girlfriend Pooly and rebuilds him into a robot. Kuro removes the control chip, discovers that people are frightened by his metal appearance, and learns that he can now speak like a human. Each episode is built around his attempts to hide his cyborg body inside a stuffed toy costume while keeping his household running. The series spans a single season of 66 episodes in a brisk, cheerful register, with slapstick mischief, warm domestic comedy and a light sense of loyalty. Set in contemporary Japan, it is an anime for young viewers in the tradition of Doraemon, with the playful pet-and-gadget charm of Pokemon, suited to family viewing and easy rewatching.
