## Synopsis

Pure (2019) is a British comedy-drama created by Kirstie Swain and produced by Drama Republic for Channel 4. Marnie, played by Charly Clive, is a young woman who has been plagued by x-rated intrusive thoughts for years and cannot say why. She leaves home on a coach to London, where she knows no one and barely knows herself, and sets out to build a new life. Around her, Kiran Sonia Sawar plays Shereen, Niamh Algar plays Amber, and Joe Cole plays Charlie, each pulling Marnie into friendships, workplace friction and romantic entanglements that test her fragile sense of control. The engine of the series is her attempt to hold together a job, a flat and a set of relationships while her obsessive thoughts keep surfacing at the worst moments. Its six short episodes of roughly thirty-five minutes each form one continuing story, a single-season limited run that moves from scene to scene with awkward humor and candid sincerity. Shot in the everyday texture of contemporary London, the show is wistful, funny and unflinching about mental health and sexual confusion, with a warm, hopeful undertow. Fans of Fleabag, Chewing Gum and Crashing will find resonance in its frank, self-conscious heroine and its blend of cringe comedy and quiet heartache.
