## Synopsis

The Eddy (2020) is a French-American limited series created by Jack Thorne for Netflix, an eight-episode miniseries. Set in contemporary Paris, it follows Elliot Udo (André Holland), an American pianist who runs a struggling jazz club called the Eddy. As debts and dangerous criminals close in, Elliot fights to keep his business, his house band and his teenage daughter Julie (Amandla Stenberg) safe. Joanna Kulig plays Maja, a bandmate whose own troubles pull at him, and Leïla Bekhti plays Amira, a figure caught in the same tangle. Each episode moves through the club's nightly sets and the back rooms where money and threats change hands, so the musical performances and the criminal pressure keep braiding together. The mood is smoky, melancholic and tense, with a strong sense of a city at night and of music as both refuge and risk. Its emotional weight rests on the strained bond between a father and daughter and on a community of musicians who are essentially a family. Fans of Treme, Ozark and Nashville will find resonance in its blend of music, personal stakes and criminal pressure, though the series also earned a mixed reception for uneven storytelling and pacing across its single run.
