## Synopsis

Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries (2019-2021) is an Australian period mystery series created by Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger for Seven Network and Acorn TV. Geraldine Hakewill plays Peregrine Fisher, a gorgeously reckless heiress who inherits a windfall when her famous aunt disappears over the highlands of New Guinea, and who must prove she can become a world class private detective in her own right. She is aided and hindered by Joel Jackson as Detective James Steed, a police officer who grudgingly shares the case load, and by Catherine McClements as Birdie Birnside, a sharp-tongued confidante. The engine of the series is a steady stream of murders, missing persons and society scandals that Peregrine investigates while navigating Melbourne's bars, dressmakers and jazz clubs. Across two seasons of twelve feature-length episodes, the show moves from case to case with a continuing thread of personal stakes. Set in 1960s Melbourne, it is a glamorous, breezy blend of period drama and whodunit, with a playful, witty tone and an eye for costume and style. Fans of Murdoch Mysteries, The Doctor Blake Mysteries and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries will find resonance here.
