## What critics say

Audiences find Evil a strange, genre-blending procedural that rewards patience with its ambiguity and the chemistry of its investigators, though its tone and ideological stance divide viewers.

## Synopsis

Evil (2019-2024) is an American supernatural mystery drama created by Michelle King and Robert King for CBS and Paramount+. Skeptical forensic psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) joins priest-in-training David Acosta (Mike Colter) and technology expert Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) as they investigate reported miracles, demonic possessions, and other extraordinary occurrences around New York City. Their engine is simple and persistent: each case asks whether a scientific explanation exists or whether something truly supernatural is at work, and the answer is rarely comfortable for any of them. Over four seasons and fifty episodes, the show plays out as a mostly case-driven format with a serialized undercurrent, following the investigators' private lives and the shadow of Dr Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson) across the arc. The tone is unsettling and wry, balancing dread and dark humor while keeping faith and doubt in constant tension. Fans of The X-Files, Supernatural and Fringe will find resonance in its paranormal casework, its skeptical protagonists and its eerie, character-driven atmosphere.
