## Synopsis

Girls from Ipanema (Coisa Mais Linda, 2019-2020) is a Brazilian period drama series created by Giuliano Cedroni and Heather Roth for Netflix. Maria Casadevall plays Maria Luiza, a housewife who arrives in Rio de Janeiro expecting to reunite with her husband, only to discover he has deserted her. Rather than return home, she decides to stay and open a bossa nova club, drawing around her a circle of musicians and women including Pathy Dejesus as Adélia Araújo and Larissa Nunes as Ivone Araújo. Mel Lisboa, Gustavo Vaz and Fernanda Vasconcellos fill out the principal cast. The engine of the series is the practical struggle of a woman with little money and no safety net, trying to keep a venue alive while navigating family obligations, romantic entanglements and the social barriers of a conservative era. Each episode leans on the sensual rhythm of nightlife, live performance and the pull between old expectations and new freedoms. Set in 1950s Rio de Janeiro, the show captures the warm, humid atmosphere of Ipanema and the emerging bossa nova scene. The series runs across two seasons and thirteen episodes, a Netflix production with a melancholic yet hopeful register. Fans of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Call the Midwife will find resonance in its female-led period storytelling.
