## Synopsis

Run (2020) is a Canadian, American and British romantic comedy-drama created by Vicky Jones for HBO. Across seven half-hour episodes in a single season, it follows Ruby Richardson (Merritt Wever), a woman living a humdrum existence who receives a text inviting her to fulfill a youthful pact promising true love and self-reinvention. Her journey with her oldest flame, Billy Johnson (Domhnall Gleeson), pulls her away from her ordinary routine and into a series of awkward, funny and tender encounters with strangers and old history. Rich Sommer appears as Laurence Richardson, anchoring the life Ruby is trying to leave behind. The engine of the show is the tension between the comfort of the familiar and the risk of starting over, with each episode built around a new stop, a new conversation and a new chance for the pair to test whether the past still fits. The tone is wry, breezy and wistful, with sincere emotional beats threaded through its deadpan dialogue. It is a short, self-contained romantic dramedy rather than a sprawling saga, and fans of Catastrophe, Dating Around and Divorce will find resonance in its frank adult relationships and its mix of humor and melancholy. Its single season was canceled, leaving the central story open. Aggregate audience reception was negative, though the season rated 6.6 out of 10 among viewers.
